How does zillow.com get the data for their website?

March 92010

Of course, all the information on home sales is public, and available in the city offices of every town, but how did zillow get this info electronically? Did they do a deal with MLS? Where did the data come from?
It certainly makes sense that their info does *not* come from MLS (their cost structure would seem to make it unprofitable). But how do they get their data input electronically? Do they literally have worker bees typing away? Scanning and OCR? Would love to know!

Zillow does not receive information from assorted MLS’s, since they cannot gain access to such information with paying dearly for same. Their info comes from free public records, which is exactly why some of their information is WILDLY off the mark.
