First time home buyer. Somewhat concerned at all the homes for sale in the same subdivision. Is this a sign that something is wrong and I shouldn’t buy there?

When there is a lot of homes for sale in a single neighborhood there is likely a reason. This reason could be a number of different things that aren’t always negative, but considering today’s market I would be concerned that many of them are on the market due to foreclosure. Ultimately you need to talk to the neighbors who don’t have the house for sale for the real story. If my guess is right you have a double edged sword by having a great opportunity to buy below market, but also you would be buying in a neighborhood that isn’t likely to increase in value until well after you buy (due to the large inventory of options).

A couple of years ago I saw a show on I thinK HGTV where they got an amount a couple was willing to spend on a home. Then they found 3 homes that were cheaper but could be remodled to meet the couples criteria and stay under the budgeted amount. I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it,or if it was really on HGTV.

I am a big fan of these types of shows and I am not recalling this one.
