We are planning on selling our house in the spring and have already spoken with a real estate agent. She mentioned some recent home sales in the area and how we should price our home according to what has sold and for how much. Is this something that is available to the public or do you have to be a real estate agent to view recent sales in the area? Where can I find what has sold in my area?
I tried zillow and it come up with zero results :-/

Your county assessor’s office should have that. It’s easier just to get your agent to print out all the comps in the area and then you can set a price based on those.

You may also be able to find some of this information on http://www.zillow.com

Edit: If you found zero results, then you may not be doing it correctly. Enter your address on the home page. Then when it switches to the map view, you can click on "similar sold". If nothing comes up on that, then you indivudally click on each house and it will show you when it sold and for what.

Is there any statistics on where do buyers nowadays learn about homes for sale? realtor.com? A sign on the property? MLS?

Do most sales happen within the same broker office or via a buyer’s agent from another office? What are the percentages?

I am sure real-estate professionals have this data. Is it available to the public?

It is still via the MLS, which is where realtor.com and other sites draw data and of course the only source real estate agents are showing their clients.

I have been looking at homes for sale online and see many houses listed for $2,000 to $10,000. How can that be? What does it mean when homes are listed for just a couple thousand dollars?

IN addition to being run down or in bad neighborhoods, some sites also list rentals and that $2,000 would be the rent for a month. Only way you can know for sure is to give the real estate agent a call.

After a burst of unflattering media, Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts has agreed to pay about $500,000 in taxes for a luxury yacht that he docked outside the state.

Kerry issued a statement Tuesday evening – five days after the story broke – saying he would make a lump payment to the state he represents.

“We’ve reached out to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue and made clear that, whether owed or not, we intend to pay the equivalent taxes as if the boat’s home port were currently in Massachusetts. That payment is being made promptly.”

The former Democratic presidential candidate initially avoided about $440,000 in Massachusetts sales taxes and $70,000 in annual excise taxes by stationing his new $7 million luxury yacht in neighboring Rhode Island. That state repealed taxes on the sale and use of yachts in 1993, making it a tax haven for boaters.

After the Boston Herald broke the story last Friday, Kerry was literally chased by local reporters and ridiculed by political columnists. The story was starting to make it into the national media when Kerry suddenly announced he would voluntarily pay the tax.

The New Zealand-built yacht has been seen repeatedly in Massachusetts waters, potentially giving the state a claim to levy a tax. Kerry’s spokesman said the yacht was docked in Rhode Island mainly for maintenance and chartering purposes.
To Bill Brasky- It’s lest, not less. Also, I don’t remember seeing Republicans running around saying paying taxes is patriotic like Joe ‘I can’t open my mouth without sticking my foot in it’ BIden. Also if you will recall, Timothy Geithner is an actual tax cheat, yet he runs the Treasury Dept, which in turn, runs the IRS. Republicans aren’t that brazen as to throw that level of hypocrisy in the taxpayers faces. I also believe I forgot to mention ol’ Charlie Rangel. if it were at all possible, (im not speaking as a realist but as an idealist) would anyone like this kind of tax set up.

dont not tax paychecks but allow everyone to keep all the money they make and then make up the difference by taxing items. (higher sales tax) items that are necessaties get low taxation or no taxation like food, car matenance, diapers, medicine, and so on and then items of luxury would get higher taxes like realy expensive cars, yachts, homes two-three times the size of the family that lives there. and then the in the middle items recieved an average tax percentage.

the benifits would be no illegal aliens could get out of paying taxes

the rich would technically be paying more taxes for buying more luxorious items but they wouldn’t be forced to buy those items, it would still be a matter of choice

the poor would pay less taxes but would still pay taxes

then the money would go first to the city and from the city it could go to the state and from the state it would go to our nation.

the point would be to give the city the most money and then the state the second most and then the government 3 most.

just like each cell in the body works as a single organisim I think the goverment would function better that way if we worked together on a small scale

some might ask, what happens to the rich peoples money that doesn’t get spent but sits in the bank…glad you asked (jk)

the rich will keep their money in banks and the banks would be required to give higher returns to those people who keep money in a savings account and then the goverment would get a percentage of the profit the banks and the rich people make for leaving the money in the bank.

this way whatever money is not being spent the goverment still profits from.

obviously you know whenever rich people stop spending money we go into a depression because the majority of the money out there is not in circulation

also, I think companies should be required to give their workers fair wages. this could be done by assesing a companies worth and paying everyone according to company profits.

basically the government would say if your company is making a high profit and your still paying your lower end workers nothing and keeping all the profit yourself we are going to raise your property tax and other taxes because you are making a society that will make the goverment be responsible for more people who aren’t getting paid fairly.

that not to say that companies who are poor cant still pay their employees less, until they grow.

anyway…its only an idea, im sure there are some holes in it, just like there are holes in every idea it seems weve come across, but what do you think???

Yes, Im strongly in favor of eliminating the IRS in exchange for a national sales tax. Then deadbeats who don’t file, and cheats who make income but don’t report, will be contributing to the federal revenue system.

I recently got married and my wife and I reserved a new home on a development. We originally reserved a fairly large 3 bedrrom place (due to be ready in december). All of our friends and family were very impressed as, for a first home, it is very nice. (we have been saving for years!)

However I went a little cold on the place…not sure why but anyhow decided to go down to the developer and pull out of the deal. The sales women didnt believe me a first but when she realised I was serious she asked what she could do to make me happier, at which point I saw a photo of a luxury, large, 3 storey 5 bedroom place (ready in 4 weeks)…i told her to swap the sale over to one of those and we stay!

She declined! So I left. However to my amazment 3 hours later I got a phone call from their sales director saying if we could exchange contracts before their half year profits were announced they would do it!

My wife and I really couldnt believe it but we have exchanged contracts and are getting our dream home as our first place. But here is the question…None of our friends or family know about the change, they all think we are buying the original place.

I recieved this email from EML, Right ill cut the chase they paid 1300 into my account saturday i redrew £300, saturday, £300 sunday… the £600 i used £580 was used to pay off debts I owed to several amounts of people.. Not a penny of that i have used for myself at all it was all used for to pay off debts….My account has been blocked online i know i done wrong and i want to know whats going to happen to me.. They sent you a phony bank check for 1300 pounds. Now you have to pay the bank bank. How can you fall for someone hiring you by email without an interview or a resume. It looks like you were complicit in this illegal transaction.

I have been in a relationship with this girl for 4 yrs and for the last two yrs it has been very tough for me. She had my kid and then completely jumped ship on me. She also quit her job and also and stopped cooking and cleaning. We lived in a luxury condo and both of us shared the bills so when she quit her job we lost 40% of our monthly income. I wanted to marry this girl so I trusted her judgment on what she was doing. So 1 yr later she still is not working. I was forced to sale my truck, motorcycle, home gym, Sony play station 2, AC, plasma HDTVs, etc…………. I also got evicted form my last apt and sued twice. Due to her no handling her stuff right. After I got sued the 2nd time I let her know that she will need to start working because I can’t hold the bag anymore. She got jobs but only worked them for 2 – 3 days before she quit. The other day I got paid a realized I’m only making 24 bucks profit on my pay checks. And that is going to the gas tank so what happens is I don’t pay one of the company’s I owe money to that month so I can feed my family. So I get 30 to 40 calls plus emails from bill collectors. I tried to get a better job but I couldn’t due to bad credit. Every day I wake up I’m very angry and just want to die I feel I’m getting more and more crazier every day. So she is still in my house going on dates with dudes and I try to kick her out and she will not leave. I want to look at foreclosed homes for sale in my area, but don’t want to go through tons of scam sites to find them. I also want to avoid paying for a listing, if I can.

Any local realtor will know all of those properties. They are also listed in the country courthouse since foreclosure proceedings go through the courts.
